As one of seven economic development alliances in South Carolina, South Carolina Alliance (SCA) represents the most rural economic development region in the state. SCA markets several industrial parks encompassing over 14,000 acres of industrial property in the 6-county region for development. SCA also markets individual industrial buildings that are available for rent or purchase by companies who want to build or grow their manufacturing.

SCA has also sponsored the construction of manufacturing buildings in select areas to make available to companies that need manufacturing space. The building above, located in Allendale, is a 40,000 square foot facility.

SCA assists existing companies with their expansion plans and works with new companies serving as a liaison to state government, including the South Carolina Departments of Commerce, Revenue, and Health and Environmental Control.

Because of the growing demand for advanced welders in the region, the program’s goal is to teach trainees the skills needed to advance in the field of welding as quickly as possible. Programs are designed by local industries to the specific qualifications and needs of their company so that trainees graduate from the program ready to work.

The program is managed by the South Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (SCMEP), a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the productivity and technical capability of manufacturers.

In June of 2014, the third class of advanced welders earned their NCCER certification. NCCER is the national certification universally recognized by industry and government as the standard for construction and maintenance craft professionals.
